A Savannah, GA, mansion on the market for $7.25 million offers a view of the city’s most famous fountain.
“You look right across the street on Riverside Park to the beautiful iconic Forsyth Fountain,” says listing agent Ridley Stallings, with Corcoran Austin Hill Realty. “Any picture you see of Savannah, you’re going to see that fountain in it. It’s very famous here.”
The massive Greek Revival residence in one of the city’s most desirable neighborhoods was designed to complement the fountain.
“Being on Forsyth Park is a very big selling point on a corner lot,” says Stallings.
Construction on the main home with distinctive columns began in 1890 and finished in 1903.
“It’s one of the grandest homes we have in Savannah. From the parlors to the ballrooms, to the garden room, it’s just quite lovely,” Stallings says.

From the exterior, the home’s most prominent feature is the curved porch with those massive Corinthian columns. The original owner’s family crest is also visible.
Inside, the main home has four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, all with opulent features as well as ornate wood carvings. The level of detail and craftsmanship evident in the woodwork is simply remarkable.
“The first things I noticed were the size of the rooms, the light that comes in, and the original woodwork,” says Stallings.

A carriage house on the property comes with a couple of one-bedroom rental units. The home’s garden level currently serves as an office space. The total living space clocks in at an amazing 10,565 square feet.
“It just has endless possibilities,” says Stallings.

Known as the Metts-McNeill Mansion, it takes its name from two famous owners.
Architect G.L. Norman built the home at the dawn of the 20th century for Lawrence McNeill, president of several businesses, including the Savannah Lumber Co.
At some point, Dr. James Clayton Metts Jr., the county coroner, bought the house and owned it for about 40 years.
In 2012, he sold it to his daughter, who operated her veterinary business on the home’s ground level.
They’re moving to be near the water, so the mansion is on the market for the first time in decades.
“Whoever buys it will come in and do their own thing with paint colors and things like that,” Stallings says. “It has been well-loved and well-maintained.”
