Would you eat green eggs and ham here? The longtime residence of children’s book author Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, has come on the market.
The award-winning writer lived in the splendid hilltop estate in La Jolla, CA, for over a half-century. It’s where he wrote many of his beloved books.
The property has been divided into four parcels, which add up to a little over 4 acres. The parcel with the main mansion can be purchased separately for $11,995,000. The remaining three parcels of land can be purchased separately or together. In total, the whole enchilada is available for $18,995,000.

The Mediterranean mansion is where Geisel wrote some of his most famous children’s literature, including “The Cat in the Hat” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”
In a charming detail, the etched glass on the front door depicts the cat in the hat.

The home has been extensively rebuilt since Geisel died in 1991. He was 87.
But some of the whimsical features remain, including a secret hiding place behind the bookshelves. A local news reporter shared the hideaway on Twitter.

The 5,000-square-foot mansion has three bedrooms, and the 1.5-acre parcel it sits on includes a pool.
Offers were due last week, says listing agent Jason Barry, with Barry Estates. Those bids are currently under consideration.
Geisel and his first wife, Helen Palmer, purchased the estate in the late 1940s.
“He chose this property specifically because of how unique and beautiful it is,” Barry says of Geisel. “The 270-degree views, they are stunning. It’s a very unique offering.”
The property was gifted by the Geisel Trust to the University of California at San Diego in 2019.
